1/10th Scale Short Course Dirt Modifieds have become very popular in the Mid-west part of the country. Following their full-size counterparts the 1/10th scale versions are very realistic. With that, The R/C Pro-Shop is offering a set of rules for tracks to use and follow. This will be part of our Track Support System that will be detailed in another post very soon. Keep in mind that these are suggestions and will only be strictly enforced at Tracks that The R/C Pro-Shop are supporting the class at. It is up to the tracks or racers to enforce the rules.
The Primary goal of these class rules is to make R/C racing more Realistic, Affordable, slow the cars to a manageable speed and create an even playing field(For Real) over each class. This in turn keeps people in R/C racing and growing the hobby which I think we all agree we want to happen.
These rules are not set in stone completely yet, but are very close. We will consider suggestions once a few more cars have been built and run.
Spec Slash Dirt SC Modifieds
Chassis: Stock Slashes only. No LCG chassis of any kind. Production, uncut progressive white springs only. The only options/upgrades that are allowed are: RPM Rear Hub carriers, RPM Front A-arms to allow rear wheels and RPM Caster/Steering blocks. Absolutely no aluminum upgrades!
Stock wheel base and track width only.
Weight: TBD The idea is to keep the need for lightweight components down to a minimum with a minimum weight that is based on standard ESC, Motor, Radio, Servo, Battery, etc.
Motor: Hobbywing Justock brushless 17.5 or 12T Titan Brushed motor only! These can be direct soldered to remove the connectors.
ESC:
A. Justock Fixed Timing ESC(Brushless)
B. Toro T50 Fixed Timing ESC(Brushless) (For tracks that we are supporting, we have track pricing on these ESC)
C. Stock Traxxas XL-5 Brushed ESC
Battery: Standard size 2s Lipo battery packs only.
Tires: Proline SC Hole Shots, M3 or M4 compound.
Wheels: Stock front wheel offsets on the front with production front arms. Production rear wheel offsets front and rear with RPM Front width compensating arms.
Spec Dirt SC Modifieds
Chassis: Any production SC chassis with minimal modifications/options/upgrades. Upgrades for durability are allowed. Tuning parts will be kept to a minimum. Only exception is the use of the Traxxas LCG chassis for the Slash. No Factory “Lite” or lightened/Machined chassis. Track width and wheelbase will be to the ROAR SC Specification.
Current approved upgrades: RPM a-arms, wider RPM arms for the Slash to reduce costs on wheels, rear hubs on Slash and others can be RPM or alum. versions.
Weight: TBD The idea here will be to keep the need for lightweight components down to a minimum with a minimum weight that is based on standard ESC, Motor, Radio, Servo, Battery, etc.
Motor: 17.5 or 13.5 depending on the track size. These need to be Approved for current ROAR spec racing. The use of “Tuner” motors should be avoided as we may specifically remove these from competition due to the cost over a base motor. Also on the table is a spec motor that will be matched by a single manufacture so that everyone will have the same or as close as possible motor.
ESC: Current approved ESC list….all ESC will not be able to change motor timing and will be fixed at 0 deg timing.
A. Hobbywing Justock
B. Toro T50 (For tracks that we are supporting, we have track pricing on these ESC)
Battery: Any 2s lipo pack. We don’t feel you need the best of the best here as the motors are limited to the current they can use anyway. 65c rating or better should be plenty. Location: Battery must remain centered in chassis, no off-set chassis or battery placement will be allowed. Shorty packs are ok.
Tires/Wheels: Spec Tires, Wheels can have any offset…just don’t get crazy.
Currently approved tires(others will be considered):
A. Proline SC Hole Shots, M3 and M4 compound.
Open Dirt SC Modifieds
Chassis:
This will be a Shortcourse based chassis. Width and Wheelbase is based on the ROAR width for the SC Class.
Weight:
TBD The idea here will be to keep the need for lightweight components down to a minimum with a minimum weight that is based on standard ESC, Motor, Radio, Servo, Battery, etc.
Motor:
This is an open class….so 540 2 pole or 550 4 pole, if you can keep tires on it go for it.
Battery:
2s lipo is it.
Tires:
Must use standard width SC and Standard SC diameter dual bead tires.
Approved Body list:
A. Sippel Speed Shop Mark4 and Mark5 (about $78), Open or closed Sail panels are ok.
If you have any suggestions for bodies, please let us know. Our primary aim to create the most realistic race classes we can with the available products. We will take a look at any suggestions however, please make sure the bodies look nice and have some kind of realistic looking front bumper.
